New feature allows users to link medical records and wellness apps to access personalized health support within ChatGPT.
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated experience within ChatGPT that lets users connect their personal health information and wellness applications to the ChatGPT experience to get tailored responses to health and wellness questions.
ChatGPT Health is designed to allow individuals to upload and link medical records and wellness apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal so the system can provide responses grounded in the user’s own data. The feature operates in a separate “Health” space inside ChatGPT with enhanced privacy protections, including purpose-built encryption and compartmentalized storage of health conversations.
ChatGPT Health is not intended for diagnosis or treatment and is meant to support people in understanding health information, preparing for medical appointments, interpreting test results, exploring diet and fitness questions, and comparing health insurance options. The platform is built with input from more than 260 physicians across 60 countries to shape how responses handle clinical context and safety.
Users must join a waitlist to gain access initially, and eligibility for early rollout includes those with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, or Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Medical record integrations and some app connections are currently available only in the United States, and Apple Health linking requires an iPhone running iOS. Health conversations, connected apps, files, and memories are not used to train OpenAI’s foundational models.
“Health is designed to support, not replace, care from clinicians,” OpenAI said in its announcement, emphasizing that the feature helps users navigate everyday health questions and understand patterns over time.
OpenAI plans to expand access and make ChatGPT Health available to all users on the web and iOS in the coming weeks.
